Factors that impact professional nursing practice are considered through critical analysis of historical influences, philosophical perspectives, professional standards, economic forces and public policy. Emphasis is placed on introducing the theoretical basis for practice, and the development of critical thinking, scholarly writing, and communication skills. Course development guided by the AACN (2021) Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice and the ANA (2021) Nursing Scope and Standards of Practice.

Theory and practice concepts that focus on the nurse's role in promoting health and managing illness in women, childbearing and childrearing families.
