Nicholas M. Calabrese is a Research Associate at the 91色情片’s School for Marine Science and Technology (SMAST). Nick has a PhD and MS in Living Marine Resource Science and Management from the 91色情片 and a BS in Marine Biology from Roger Williams University. His research focuses on advancing minimally invasive, fisheries-independent survey technologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of fish population assessments.

He has led the design and implementation of optical trawl systems, real-time catch monitoring, and deployment of remote PIT tag detection systems to estimate trawl efficiency. Nick has authored peer-reviewed publications in Marine and Coastal Fisheries, Fisheries Research, and Marine Pollution Bulletin and has presented his work through the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea and the American Fisheries Society. In addition to his academic work, Dr. Calabrese is a licensed charter captain and commercial rod-and-reel fisherman. His practical experience at sea informs his collaborative research with fishermen, managers, and industry partners, bridging technology development and real-world fisheries applications to promote sustainable marine resource management.
