This talk explores the role of language in the formation of Cape Verdean national identity and the complexities of building a national language from an oral 鈥淐reole鈥 that is rooted in a slavery-based colonial past.
M谩rcia Rego is a Cultural Anthropologist and Associate Professor of the Practice at Duke University. She is the author of 鈥淭he Dialogic Nation of Cape Verde: Slavery, Language and Ideology,鈥 by Lexington Books.
