Critical analysis of breast and body聽as a socio-cultural construct. Beyond biology, we will view the body as a site where inequalities and hierarchies are inscribed and assess the social processes that have rendered the female breast a metonym of womanhood. The course is organized along the following questions: how and through what mechanisms have women驴s breasts been 驴fetishized, 驴commodified, 驴eroticized, 驴domesticated, 驴medicalized, and 驴politicized. 聽Students are expected to conduct independent research and learn to theorize the body as a social and cultural artifact.
